Cultivating Opportunities
This morning (10/16/07) Underwriters Laboratories (UL) made a long-awaited announcement in the E85 industry. Upon completing a comprehensive research program to investigate potential safety concerns associated with dispensing highly concentrated ethanol-blended fuels, the nation's leading safety testing and certification organization issued a press release announcing the establishment of safety requirements for E85 fueling dispensing equipment. UL is now accepting submittals for certification investigations.
As part of ongoing research, UL is currently working with the Department of Energy, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Laboratory to conduct additional long-term, dynamic testing of materials to be used in E85 dispensers.
"This is an exciting and encouraging development in the renewable fuels industry. Dresser Wayne looks forward to UL posting its E85 dispenser safety requirements soon," said Scott Negley, director of product management for Dresser Wayne and NEVC Board Director. Dresser Wayne, based in Addison, Tx., is one of the world's largest suppliers of E85 dispensing equipment and supports the NEVC through membership.
The NEVC applauds UL for making this major advancement in the E85 industry and expects it will help propel the expansion of E85 availability nationwide.
