NCGA Membership Breaks a Record

Fueled by interest in the programs, services and leadership the organization offers, a record 33,867 growers are now members of the National Corn Growers Association. The previous record of 33,562 was set in March 2004.

“We’re excited to see these numbers, especially at a time of such crucial importance to our industry,” said Ron Litterer, NCGA president. “The fact that so many growers recognize how essential it is to get involved, and see the value in membership and participation, speaks highly not just of the NCGA staff in St. Louis and Washington, but of the dozens of corn growers who play an active role in leadership and programs at NCGA.”

In addition to representing these individual members, NCGA works as a federation of the many state-level grower associations and checkoff boards. More than 300,000 growers contribute to the state and national organizations through corn checkoff funds in their states.

Also this year, the number of entries in the National Corn Yield Contest – which requires NCGA membership – has soared to approximately 6,700, nearly 2,000 above last year’s number and more than twice the number of entries in 2006.

“Whether it’s promoting the image of corn and the American farmer, finding and growing new markets for corn, or representing our interests on Capitol Hill, the National Corn Growers Association has been a leader, not a follower,” Litterer said. “Our members are the backbone of our grassroots association, and we’re excited that so many see the value of what we do.”
