Corn Growers and Livestock Producers Serve Steaks to Troops

December 22, 2010 - 5:52pm

Members of the Colorado Corn Growers (CCGA), Colorado Corn Administrative Committee (CCAC), Colorado Livestock Association (CLA), Holyoke FFA Chapter, family members and friends joined forces on December 11, 2010, to serve U.S. soldiers and their families at Fort Carson, in Colorado Springs. The” Steak for Troops” dinner was hosted by the All American Beef Battalion, and the three ag organizations, to show appreciation, respect, and honor of our Armed Forces.

Steve Scott, president of CCAC, briefly addressed the troops and their families. “ I am a third generation farmer and I am proud to represent over  4000 corn farmers throughout Colorado. Colorado's farmers and ranchers are the backbone of our economy, but you are the backbone of our country! To this end, we are extremely thankful for all you do in keeping our homeland safe and free from those who wish to harm us. So from our hearts to yours, Colorado's  farmers and ranchers - Thank You, Merry Christmas, and God Bless.”

CCGA member Mike Lefever added, “This was my second year volunteering with the All American Beef Battalion and I can’t wait to do it again. My son Michael also attended and said to me, ‘Dad, this is why I’m in the army. I’m proud of these soldiers and their families.’ My son is in the United States Army ROTC program at Colorado State University.”

“This is the second time our organizations partnered with CLA to provide volunteers as well as financial support for the dinner.” said Mark Sponsler, Executive Director of Colorado Corn. “It’s a great way to show appreciation to our service men and women, and to collaborate with ag groups to promote beef.”

Volunteers helped with set up, and assisted in serving approximately 750.
