BROOMFIELD OPENS FIRST E85 ETHANOL REFUELING SITE

December 15, 2008 - 12:00am

Western Convenience Offers E85 for .85 Cents per Gallon at Grand Opening

Greeley (December 15, 2008) – The Colorado Corn Growers Association, the Governor’s Biofuels Coalition and Western Convenience Stores are partnering to celebrate the opening of a new E85 pump location at 12702 Lowell Boulevard, Broomfield, Colorado, on December 18.
E85 contains 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. The ethanol portion is made from home-grown, renewable biomass that offers significant environmental benefits over the petroleum based alternative. Consumers who drive Flex-Fuel Vehicles (FFV’s) can use any combination of E85 and gasoline.
With every new pump installation, more consumers have access to this renewable fuel. “We are glad to partner with the Governor’s Biofuels Coalition (GBC) and Western Convenience who are working to expand E85 availability throughout the state. Together, we are making a difference for Colorado’s air quality and for consumers who support renewable fuel,” says Mark Sponsler, CEO of Colorado Corn. “Western Convenience, GBC, and auto industry leaders like GM have been outstanding partners in this effort.”
The number of E85 fueling locations in Colorado has grown significantly within the last 21 months. Currently there are 90 stations opened and selling Biofuels and another 18 under construction. Western Convenience has invested in 32 of those locations throughout Colorado. The Colorado Corn Growers Association and GBC have provided funding and support to most of the E85 refueling sites across the state.
Consumers who drive FFV’s will have an opportunity to save money by filling up for only .85 cents a gallon on Thursday, December 18. Western Convenience is making E85 available for .85 cents a gallon from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in a promotional effort to highlight the availability of the fuel at their Store in Broomfield.
Join Western Convenience, Colorado Corn and the GBC as they celebrate the opening of this new E85 fueling site.
The Colorado Corn Growers Association and Colorado Corn Administrative Committee work on behalf of more than 4,000 corn producers through market development, communications, research, and technical assistance. See more about the work of both organizations at the www.coloradocorn.com website.

The Governor’s Biofuels Coalition aims to educate Colorado’s almost 300,000 vehicle owners to the benefits and availability of E85 and biodiesel. Also, the GBC aims to maximize the number of installations of E85 and biodiesel pumping facilities within Colorado by granting funds for equipment and educational/learning materials. If you are a station owner, fleet manager, or community member interested in bringing biofuels to your area, please contact stacey [dot] simms [at] state [dot] co [dot] us for information on grants and technical support. Funding for the Governor’s Biofuels Coalition was awarded by the Department of Energy’s Maximizing Alternative Fuels Grant and the Colorado Clean Energy Fund.
