1,400 Gallons Sold in Colorado Pump Promotion

Nearly 1,400 gallons of E85 were sold during the celebration of the new E85 fueling pump in Montrose, Colorado this week. The Colorado Corn Growers Association, the Governor’s Biofuels Coalition, Western Convenience Stores and Southern Colorado Clean Cities partnered to bring the new pump to the western part of the state.

Colorado Corn to Co-Sponsor Debate

U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave and her challenger Betsy Markey will debate in Fort Morgan at 7 p.m. Oct. 13.

The two are competing for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District. Republican Musgrave has served three terms in the seat and Markey, a Democrat, has previously worked as the Northern Colorado Regional Director for U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar.

In 2008 alone, ethanol production in the United States is credited with displacing the equivalent of 52 large oil tankers filled with imported crude and helping reduce gas prices.

You're Not Fueling Anyone: Ending Fossil-fuel Subsidies Would Help Climate and Economy, U.N. Says

Ending fossil-fuel subsidies around the world could slash greenhouse-gas emissions by up to 6 percent and help the economy at the same time, according to a new United Nations report. Globally, governments spend some $300 billion on fuel subsidies which encourage consumption, delay transition to cleaner energy sources and mainly benefit the already-rich, even though most of the programs are intended to help the poor with fuel costs.

LOUISVILLE (September 10, 2008) – In 2008 the United States will import nearly two-thirds of its oil needs, the vast majority from unstable regimes in the Middle East. Already, corn-based ethanol is making a difference, displacing 330,000 barrels of imported oil a day – more than one large oil tanker a week – and shifting our reliance from foreign sheiks to farmers across Kentucky and the Midwest.

NCGA Membership Breaks a Record

Fueled by interest in the programs, services and leadership the organization offers, a record 33,867 growers are now members of the National Corn Growers Association. The previous record of 33,562 was set in March 2004.

Colorado Cellulosic Ethanol Plant Confirmed

A cellulosic ethanol demonstration plant is planned for Grand Junction, Colorado.

Lignol Energy Corporation has received approval from the U.S. Department of Energy to locate the facility on the western slope of Colorado.

The approved location is a change from the originally proposed site adjacent to Suncor Energy refinery in Commerce City, Colorado. According to the company, the Grand Junction location offers logistical advantages including access to feedstock and ethanol distribution efficiencies.
