  • Recent research shows that estimates for the energy balance of corn-based ethanol are 2-3 times more favorable than previous estimates.
     
  • About 1.67 more unites of energy are derived from ethanol than are used to produce it.
     
  • Ethanol-to-petroleum output/input ratios ranged from 10:1 to 13:1 but could be increased to 19:1 if farmer adopted high-yield progressive crop and soil management practices.
