Cultivating Opportunities
For the second year in a row, a Colorado corn farm has taken a top honor in the National Corn Growers Association Corn Yield Contest.
Ute Mountain Farm & Ranch Enterprise of Towaoc, Colorado, took third place in the No-Till/Strip Till Irrigated Class, the same honor they won last year. This year, their yield was 315.1727 compared to 335.9325 bushels per acre last year.
Corn farmers in Holyoke, Springfield, Arapahoe, Stratton, Rocky Ford , Walsh and Pueblo took top honors in the corn yield contest in Colorado.
Brandon Shaffer, Colorado Senate President, and Representative Jerry Sonnenberg, Chairman of the House Ag Committee and Sterling Colorado farmer, received the 2010 Legislator of the Year Award from the Colorado Corn Growers Association (CCGA), for their outstanding support of agriculture in the 2010 legislative session. Don Ament of Iliff was also awarded the Amicus – Friend of Agriculture Award in recognition of his commitment to preserving Colorado’s rural communities through his work to protect agricultural water resources.
The 1979 founding board of the Colorado Corn Growers Association was chosen to receive the Jean Sirios President’s award at the organization’s annual banquet. State Senator Mary Hodge and Representative Jerry Sonnenberg accepted Colorado Corn’s Legislator of the Year awards, while Reagan Waskom of the Colorado Water Institute received the Friend of Agriculture award.
